PROJECT
the big green
The Big Green project brings together European associations and organisations to create, promote, and experiment with different and innovative ways of using art to advance sustainability. It also explores how the cultural and creative sector can adopt measures to reduce its ecological footprint. This project is co-funded by the European Union, and its consortium is highly diverse, comprising cultural organisations, environmental associations and universities.
Sciaena is one of the partners in this consortium, contributing its experience in environmental awareness and its expertise in critical and urgent issues facing the ocean and our society. Mar Motto — Sciaena’s annual arts festival focused on ocean-related environmental awareness — has been selected as one of four festivals that will showcase the work developed within The Big Green, and will host the third edition of the project’s annual conference, the unCONFERENCE.
The unCONFERENCE is an informal gathering that brings together professionals from the fields of art, culture, research, education, and sustainability to discuss the role of culture and the arts on a planet facing a polycrisis — both as a source of education and awareness, and as a sector striving to reduce its ecological footprint.
The unCONFERENCE will take place as part of the Mar Motto programme, with most sessions held at the Antiga Fábrica da Cerveja, while others will take place in outdoor locations (Faro Beach and the Old Town).
This event will host experts and professionals from various sectors, from the Algarve, other regions of Portugal, and several European countries. It will feature a mix of talks, performances, debates, and concerts across three days of shared learning and collaboration.
Due to the multilingual nature of the audience, all sessions will be conducted in English. Admission is free, but registration is required for organisational purposes. Please note that workshops, in particular, have limited capacity.
The programme can be consulted HERE.
Registration can be completed for one or multiple sessions, or for the entire conference, via this link. The unCONFERENCE programme includes a welcome dinner on the 22nd, and lunches on the 23rd and 24th, with the associated costs indicated in the registration form.
